A Little Girl and the Moon

Moonbeams in a midnight sky beckons a little girl
From her bed to sit among the stars and share her secrets
Small face glowing she whispers a wish on the wind
To be carried to her friend the moon

All alone in the moonlight she sits unafraid
Dreaming of what lies beyond the shadowed horizon
Lands where a fairy flies with wings of purple
Taking her on a journey just east of the sun

The night sounds tickle her ears as she hears the call of an owl
While frogs join in croaking chorus to sing of life on the pond
Fireflies twinkle their tiny lights as they rest on her hand

Slowly she stands to take one last glance at the moon
Blowing a kiss she says goodnight to her companion
Speaking a promise to return soon
With head on flowered pillow she falls asleep
Wrapped in the arms of the moon
